Washing diapers is a snap! There are no more wet pails, toilet swirling, or other messy time consuming methods to washing you diapers. Just dump solids in the toilet. I carry flushable liners to make this even easier.
If you ask 10 people how to wash cloth, you will get 10 different answers. The right answer is what works best for you, your baby, your schedule, your washer, and your water source.
This is my recommendation on how to wash. Rinsing is important to get all the detergent out. First I run a cold rinse cycle with no spin. My washer has a setting for this and it's about 10 minutes. Then I run a Hot wash/Cold rinse cycle with 1/4 of the recommended detergent amount. (1/4 for HE washers, 1/2 for regular washers)
In case of a diaper odor , try OxyClean.
Diapers can also be hung out to dry in the sun. This is also useful to remove any staining.
Happy Heinys recommends Tide as a mainstream line or Country Save ( I can order this for you if you are local to Charlotte). As long as it doesn't have fabric softener, optical brighteners, enzymes or any "extra's" in it. These can all leave deposits on your diapers that will prevent them from absorbing or can cause irritation.
There are other great detergents found at health food stores such as Planet , Country Save, Mountain Green Free and Clear, and Nellie's all natural laundry soda. These may be found in natural food markets.
Again, rinsing is the key. If your baby is having a rash it is most likely the soap. If you're having an issue with absorbency and your diaper is fitted correctly, you may have detergent build up. In this case, soak diapers in the sink with a small bit of blue Dawn then wash with no detergent in the washer.
Some of your washing you will learn from trial and error. Your water source can play a role in which detergent works best as well.
No Dryer Sheets or fabric softners! DRYER BALLS are great!!!
