Advantages of Cloth

Advantages of Cloth diapers

1- Ease of use (even my husband thinks they're great!) Velcro, snap on, or hook and loop closures. Cloth diapers have been revolutionized! No pins!

2- Environmentally friendly- Disposable diapers can sit in a landfill for 200-500 years before they biodegrade! They are the 3rd largest single consumer item found in landfills (nothing really biodegrades well in a landfill. ) This information comes from the advocacy group Real Diaper Association.

3. Solid Waste(poo) is meant to be disposed of in a toilet not a landfill or diaper pail. So tip your poo in the potty! it is easy- they even make liners to make it easier. Human waste is ending up in landfills where it does not belong and technically is not allowed!

4. Washing a load of diapers is a snap! Hot wash, cold rinse, tumble dry or hang in the sun to dry. Mothering magazine noted that a wash load of diapers every 3 days is equivalent to an adult or potty trained child flushing the toilet 5-6 times a day!

5. Less Detergent! Use only 1/4 of the recommended detergent in HE Washers and 1/2 the amount for regular washers.

6. Less Chance of Diaper Rashes!!- Cloth diapers don't use chemicals for processing and no questionable fillings either. This means less chance of  irritation for the baby. If there is a rash though, I recommend Grama El's Rash Cream. Most Diaper creams will stain your diaper or cause repelling and buildup so be careful.

7. Adjustable size diapers will last through one child or several children. Infants through potty training. All cloth diapers are more attractive than disposables. Choose from stripes, polka dots and fun bright colors.

8. Save $$$$$. On average, we were spending $ 50.00-75.00 per month on diapersfor our almost 2 year old. That's $600-900 per year for one child. On average children will spend 2 1/2 years in diapers or training pants. That's $1500-$2250 in throw away diapers per child. An initial investment in cloth diapering can save you tons of money in the long run! No more trips to the store and lugging that box around.

9. Chemicals resting on our baby's most delicate area 24 hours a day! In an article from Mothering magazine it is pointed out that the little gel beads in the disposable diapers is sodium polyacrylate. This is the same element that was removed from tampons in 1985 because of its link to toxic shock syndrome!

10.  They are sooooo much more attractive than those itchy disposables!!!!!
