Adding 100% Cotton
Going to try some cotton prefolds to use in my diapers. My 6 month old has had on ongoing rash that has been very tough to clear up! Thank you for being so patient while I spend the year devoted to my new little one! I am still available for any questions about your cloth diaper adventure.

Knickernappies and Fuzzi Bunz Review
Wow! If you have a super chunky baby, I recommend both these brands! Heather from Knickernappies and Cloth Diaper Outlet has been such a huge help. Knickernappies and Fuzzi Bunz to the rescue! I can see how both these brands would be really big on a more slender baby. I praise the elastic on these diapers. No red marks!
The Fuzzi Bunz one size are a bit trimmer and kinda tough to stuff but still offer a good fit. Fuzzi Bunz Perfect size are a full coverage diaper that are priced well and easy to stuff.
Both Knickernappies one size and Custom Fit have gentle elastic and a nice fit. I would not hesitate to recommend both of these sized diapers. They are easy to use and priced well. You will still save money over disposables with these sized diapers. The Knickernappies one size has the advantage of coming with 2 inserts. You have a choice of microfiber or 2 loopy do's. Loopy Do's are a fantastic insert. Very absorbent and trim. It is well worth the extra money per diaper to get the loopy do's.

If all my diapers were washed, dried and stuffed, the first ones I go for are the Happy Heiny's. Why? I have a chunky money! 17 lbs at 4 1/2 months and lots of rolls. The elastic is gently and they are easier to stuff than other diapers. I use aplix at night just because I'm half asleep when I change her.
The Wahmies are a good fit as well with plenty of adjustments available. The new Wahmies are a more generous fit than the older version. With our 2nd oldest daughter we primarily used Wahmies but she was a much smaller baby and was on the slender side. I do find that the new lining on the new Wahmies takes longer to dry and if you hand dry it is a bit crunchy. I do feel that the PUL is very good quality.
Right now we are not using the Rocky Mountain diapers. The elastic is very tight on her and it is a very slender fit. Hopefully after she is moving around on her own and slims out, they'll fit better.
I gave up on the Bum Genius. They really are a "go to" brand for a lot of parents but I didn't like the inside lining.
Knickernappies are another favorite of mine. Their elastic is super nice and the diaper has a generous fit. They are easy to stuff and of high quality. These are pricier than other diapers but it is well worth it.

Great Website for School
My daughter thought I was a total drag when I said we were continuing school through the summer. We home school and I really like to keep up the habits of reading and math. It had been very rough especially with the pool calling our name! Until I found Time4Learning. She loves that she can log in on her own and do her 4 core subjects on the computer without me hanging over her shoulder. I love that I can log in and see what she is doing, when, and how well she tested. Having access to a grade above and below is fantastic and you can't beat the price!! So our days are more pleasant now and work is still getting done. We will be adding this to our home school curriculum in the fall as well. www.time4learning.com Check out the demos!
Time4Learning has given me the opportunity to review their program and share my experiences. Time4Learning is an online educational program that can be used as a homeschool curriculum or for afterschool enrichment. While I was compensated, the content in this review was not written by Time4Learning. The opinion is entirely my own.

Ready for baby!
Well, I've got a good stash together. A mix of the Wahmies one size, Bum Genius 4.0, Rocky Mountain diapers and Happy Heiny's. I also bought a set of prefold and Imse Vimse Newborn Covers! Everything is washed and ready to be used. I love the Rockin' Green Detergent. I think it works very well on regular laundry as well. Thank you to everyone who gave us baby clothes and equipment.
I will let you know how it goes in the hospital using cloth! We haven't done that before. We are very excited for our new addition and look forward to sharing our experiences!

My diapers stink! Will Rockin’ Green help?
Yeap! You can do a mini-strip when you first start using Rockin’ Green to get the jump on the funk.
Yeap! You can do a mini-strip when you first start using Rockin’ Green to get the jump on the funk.
1. Fill your washer with hot water and 3 Tbsp of Rockin’ Green, along with your diapers.
2. Let it soak for approximately 30-60 minutes. Then launder several times skipping the soap. If you have a HE machine, you may have to consult your manual but you can usually do a soak by pressing the start or pause button.
*Tip: Repeat this process anytime you need a good deep-cleaning. If your diapers have excessive buildup or residue, it may take a few soaks to get them in good condition.
You can also do a soak anytime that you feel your diapers need a good deep cleaning.
Keep using Rockin’ Green to keep the stinkies at bay.

Washing Cloth Diapers
How to Wash your Cloth Diapers
This is my recommendation on how to wash. Run a cold rinse then a hot wash/cold rinse cycle.
This is my recommendation on how to wash. Run a cold rinse then a hot wash/cold rinse cycle.
Don't overdo it on the amount of detergent!
Diapers can also be hung out to dry in the sun. This is also useful to remove any staining.
The detergent should not have fabric softener, optical brighteners. These can leave deposits on your diapers that will prevent them from absorbing or can cause irritation.

Tide is one of the mainstream detergents that is great for cloth diapers. Yes it has enzymes but it works! I believe the key is that it rinses clean out of your laundry.
Country Save is a great natural detergent for all your clothes. You can order in bulk on Amazon.com. I also carry Rockin Green for local customers.
Again, rinsing is the key. If your baby is having a rash it is most likely the soap residue. If you're having an issue with absorbency and your diaper is fitted correctly, you may have detergent build up. In this case, you will need to "strip" your diapers. Rockin' Green is great to use for this or a small squirt of Dawn.
Some of your washing you will learn from trial and error. Your water source can play a role in which detergent works best ! 100% cotton is easier to get clean than synthetics.
No Dryer Sheets or fabric softners! DRYER BALLS are great!!!
All products can be tumble dried or line dried.
Advantages of cloth diapers
Advantages of Cloth Diapers!!
1- Ease of use (even my husband thinks they're great!) Velcro, snap on, or hook and loop closures. Cloth diapers have been revolutionized! No pins!
2- Environmentally friendly- Disposable diapers can sit in a landfill for 200-500 years before they biodegrade! They are the 3rd largest single consumer item found in landfills (nothing really biodegrades well in a landfill. ) This information comes from the advocacy group Real Diaper Association.
3. Solid Waste(poo) is meant to be disposed of in a toilet not a landfill or diaper pail. So tip your poo in the potty! it is easy- they even make liners to make it easier. Human waste is ending up in landfills where it does not belong and technically is not allowed!
4. Washing a load of diapers is a snap! Hot wash, cold rinse, tumble dry or hang in the sun to dry. Mothering magazine noted that a wash load of diapers every 3 days is equivalent to an adult or potty trained child flushing the toilet 5-6 times a day!
5. Less Detergent! Use only 1/4 of the recommended detergent in HE Washers and 1/2 the amount for regular washers.
6. Less Chance of Diaper Rashes!!- Cloth diapers don't use chemicals for processing and no questionable fillings either. This means less chance of irritation for the baby. If there is a rash though, I recommend Grama El's Rash Cream. Most Diaper creams will stain your diaper or cause repelling and buildup so be careful.
7. Adjustable size diapers will last through one child or several children. Infants through potty training. All cloth diapers are more attractive than disposables. Choose from stripes, polka dots and fun bright colors.
8. Save $$$$$. On average, we were spending $ 50.00-75.00 per month on diapersfor our almost 2 year old. That's $600-900 per year for one child. On average children will spend 2 1/2 years in diapers or training pants. That's $1500-$2250 in throw away diapers per child. An initial investment in cloth diapering can save you tons of money in the long run! No more trips to the store and lugging that box around.
9. Chemicals resting on our baby's most delicate area 24 hours a day! In an article from Mothering magazine it is pointed out that the little gel beads in the disposable diapers is sodium polyacrylate. This is the same element that was removed from tampons in 1985 because of its link to toxic shock syndrome!
